Sudoku - Japanese puzzle game that has won huge popularity all over the world. In loosely translated from Japanese Sudoku means "single number" (SU-"number", doc - "Single"). The first prototypes of the game appeared in 18 century. But the real recognition of the game was only in the 70's and 80's of last century.

Game rules are very simple: the field consists of a square the size of 9x9 cells (large square). Large square, in turn, consists of 9 small squares on the 9-cell (3x3). Some cells already contain numbers 1 through 9. The purpose of the puzzle - fill in the free cell numbers from 1 to 9 so that every row, every column, and 9x9 big square in each small square of 3x3, each digit will occur only once.

How To Solve Sudoku

Correctly, composed puzzle has only one solution!

Sudoku can be of different levels of complexity. Thus, in the most simple levels of pre-marked cells are usually larger, which greatly facilitates the process of playing. But in the complicated puzzle most of the cells you have to fill in yourself. Moreover, you will encounter situations where necessary to put digits "at random" and then to verify the correctness of their choice. Therefore, play should be carefully, checking their actions.

Some puzzles can be solved in a few minutes, but the other one can spend hours.

For those who have achieved excellence in solving a puzzle and want something more complicated, there are variants of the puzzle, where the square has a size such as 16x16.

In addition, there is Sudoku, which do not specify the individual digits, but only the sum of digits in groups of cells, i.e., the field itself is divided into rectangular blocks of various sizes and the amount of numbers included in each block.

The word Sudoku marks its existence way back in July 6, 1895 when a France based daily newspaper published a number puzzle which was unique in its own way. Sudoku is basically played and was introduced on a 9x9 number board and it was divided into 3x3 grids and the objective of this game was to logically fill each row and column with numbers ranging from 1 to 9 such that no number is repeated in the respective horizontal line, vertical line and in the 3x3 grid itself.

The popularization of this fantastic number puzzle was done by the company Nikoli in the year 1986 and since then it has created a rage almost all over the world. The best number puzzle award and the best logical game award are some of the little prestigious recognition that Sudoku got. For years it has been said that there are no specific rules to solve Sudoku quickly but there have always been effective measures on how to solve Sudoku. Some of the basic steps are follows:

  • Choose the first row to begin with and though this rule may not be helpful in all the patterns to begin with but you should see the loner in these numbers. This means exclude all the numbers which are present in the 3x3 cell from before and likewise in the vertical lines and you will get a loner number. This is not a hard and fast rule to comply with.
  • Next is the rule which is almost the thumb rule to solve a Sudoku puzzle. This is called the slice and dice rule. Pick a number and slice it vertically and horizontally by comparing it to the other adjacent grids and then dice off the numbers which are in repetitive order. You will surely get some numbers by this rule.
  • Another trick has been disclosed by the masters of Sudoku and that is if an identical pair of candidates are present in any two group of squares then other candidates can be safely excluded from those squares.
  • There are numbers which are locked in a pattern and it is must for it to be in that place and hence it saves time and efforts for solving a Sudoku puzzle. Try to get these numbers in this step.
  • Now after locking that number go for the same row or column of that respective locked number cell. This will possibly give you some other numbers keeping in mind the other mentioned steps above.
  • Now is a step which can be named as kill the cell. As the name gives an impression we fill a 3x3 cell completely if there is a possibility of doing that by getting all the hidden and locked numbers and executing the thumb rule in number of iterations.
  • One rule that should be very clear in the minds of the solvers should be to never guess work a number in any pattern. There is a definite way of solving the puzzle. Until and unless the numbers already present in the puzzle are not there to confirm the validity of the game you cannot go for the guessing game.

These are some of the basic rules and steps on how to solve Sudoku and it can give you the initialization for being an addictive player of this game. The best part about Sudoku is that it is supported by all the genre of people and it has no age bars when it comes to loving this game.
